Why is this video about the 2009 rally? Should I wait for the 2010 video?

The Iron Butt Rally is a biennial event. It used to run every year, but then it was realized that the enormous amount of preparation necessary to compete required an additional year between rallies. The next Iron Butt Rally will be held in 2011.

If the Iron Butt Rally is the "World's Toughest Motorcycle Competition", why haven't I ever heard of it?

Long-distance motorcycle riders are a small, yet dedicated, sub-group of the motorcycle community. The Iron Butt Rally emerged as a way for the longest of the long-distance riders to challenge themselves while maintaining safe riding practices. There is no prize money for winning the Iron Butt Rally, so sponsorship is all but eliminated. This helps keep the rally a smaller, more personal event with greater access by non-professional motorcycle riders.

Is the Iron Butt Rally really THAT hard? The competitors look like ordinary people.

Motorcycle riders know that riding requires much more physical exertion and mental alertness than simply driving a car. Iron Butt Rally riders typically spend 16+ hours a day in the saddle. Multiply that by 11 days, add temperature and weather extremes, and with the added challenge of complex routing and bonus-point calculations... Yes, it really is THAT hard.
